INTRODUCTION
Windsurfing is a popular offshore water sport which is fast gaining popularity among local surfers. Although the sport has long been very popular among westerners, it was only in early 1980 that windsurfing was introduced to Malaysian waters when a group of windsurfing enthusiasts from Kuala Lumpur tried the game in Balok, Kuantan during a monsoon season. They found out that the open water with wind speed between 8 to 20 knots per hour was very suitable for windsurfing.

Malaysian windsurfing grew steadily during the 80's and early 90's, attracting major sponsors, media coverage and culminating in the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) holding major World Cup events in Kuantan in 1990, 1992 and 1993.

Our long term aim is to:

. Put windsurfing within the reach of all Malaysians.
. Identify and train potential sailors for the major regional Games (Asian/SEA) and the Olympics 2OO8.
. Attract Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) back to Malaysia .

ORGANISATION

"KUANTAN CHALLENGE 2008" WINDSURFING & KITESURFING is organised the Pahang State Government through Fraser's Hill Development Corporation and with the cooperation the Hudata Intergrated also support by:

COMPETITION FORMAT
a) High Speed Downwind Slalom
This is a knockout heat and time trials with at least 10 competitors competing at one time. The winners will meet in the Final.

b) Masterblast High Speed
All the competitors will hit the line together and race out 3 miles into the open sea, gibe around a marker buoy and race back to the beach.

c) Kite-surfing

d) Powerkite

PRIZES
There will be attractive prizes for the grab including cash, trophy and other prizes.

PARTICIPATION
Pahang State Tourism will be inviting top sailors from the all over Malaysia and Singapore to participate this event.
